Private Pilates Sessions
What is a private session?
When you sign up for a private session you will have 1 teacher for a 55-minute session. They will be able to determine your body's strengths and weaknesses, and select the appropriate Pilates exercises for you.
The instructor will teach you how to engage the muscles of your ' inner unit'. These are the pelvic floor and transverse abdomens. Oftentimes a weakness in this area contributes to lower back pain and tightness. We often refer to the area from the belly button to the pubic bone as the seven dead inches. Pilates will help you reconnect to these important stabilizing muscles.
Each session will consist of certain elements: usually leg and footwork, arms, back-extension, rotation and much more. During all of this you are using your 'core' muscles to support the body and stabilize the pelvis and shoulder girdle.
We will also use many items of the smaller apparatus depending on the goals we are working to achieve, for example flexibility, balance, strength or coordination. All the exercises are modified for each individual depending on their level of ability.
Whether you are a beginner, post rehab or an athlete, each person's body is unique and thus their program must be able to meet their needs and challenge their abilities.
We work with you to help you achieve your goals.
What is a duet?
This is the same as a private session except you share your session with a friend or other partner. Again you will experience all of the great equipment. Once again exercises are modified to each individual's strengths and weaknesses. The benefits of a duet are: less expensive, and the fun of working out with a friend/partner.
What is a reformer or circuit class?
If you have never worked on the Pilates equipment before we suggest that you take at least 5 private sessions first. This will enable us to teach the basic requirements needed to function well in a class situation. We would start you out in a reformer class after your private sessions have been completed, before you would try a circuit class.
A class is a 55-minute session with 3 participants. Each has one reformer to workout on for the session. The teacher will take you through a full body workout assisting you and modifying the exercises when necessary.
We keep our classes small, so we can still be very 'hands on', guiding and supporting you through your work. This provides a more intimate and less competitive and intimidating environment for our clients, helping them feel more comfortable. A class is fun! You have the energy and motivation of the other participants. This ensures a steady pace is maintained, and is also a cost effective way to receive your Pilates experience.
